Weight Loss Tips #3 – EXERCISE!

You probably don’t need to be told that if you want to lose weight you should exercise. Regular exercise along with a controlled, balanced diet is the easiest and quickest way to get the results you are after.

If you are not currently exercising at all, start out gently. Some light exercise every day is all you need to get started, and it should be enjoyable. Take a stroll in the park for an hour. It will not only burn calories, but also give you a chance to unwind and relax. If you find it boring, listen to some of your favourite music or even educate yourself by listening to an audiobook.

Consider taking part in activities that you find enjoyable, such as swimming, cycling, tennis, horse-riding etc. If you can find someone to partner up with or a local group to join it will feel less like a chore and more like a fun social occasion.

The most important thing is to be consistent with your exercise. Set yourself a schedule for the week and stick to it, yet don’t be too hard on yourself. If you miss a session, no problem! Just pick it up and start again.

Getting outdoors and being active not only benefits you physically, but also mentally. It clears your head and can even give you a nice release of endorphins (the feel-good chemicals in our bodies), which is a highly pleasurable experience that you will never get sitting on the couch watching TV!

You might also find it helps to set goals to work towards. For example, if you have been jogging for a while, consider entering a local running event. Working towards the big day will push you to train harder and the pounds will drop off you without you having to think about it.

But if that sounds too scary, just set your own small and achievable goals. Whether it’s to run 15 minutes without stopping, or to run 3K/5K/10K, or even just to get into the swimming pool 3 times a week, setting goals can really help to keep you focused and committed.

So to summarize…start lightly, do what you enjoy, do it with others if possible, do it consistently, and set goals.

And don’t forget, it will take a lot of effort, especially at first. But as soon as you get into the habit of exercising regularly it won’t take long for you to both SEE and FEEL the difference.

Good luck!
